  • Alkalise your diet to protect your kidneys

    Eating a good diet and having great nutrition is so important when it comes to all aspects of your health, including those related to kidney function. Now a new study shows that for those with kidney disease or chronic infections an alkaline diet can be a protective measure.

    Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), studies have shown that diet can significantly influence the risk of progression of the disease. For example, diets with a high acid content may increase their risk of developing kidney failure.

    A study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), suggests that patients may want to limit their intake of meats and increase their consumption of fruits and vegetables to help protect their kidneys

    A Doctor from The University of San Francisco and her colleagues examined whether acid-inducing diets might play a role with kidney problems. By testing these different diets they concluded that low acid diets are rich in fruits and vegetables, while high acid diets contain more meats.     In order to live a healthy life it is best not to consume too much of the same food group. Our bodies are best suited for an omnivore diet, which is meats, fruits and vegetables. People who eat poor are the ones who suffer the most.
