• Yoga Pose That Builds Up Confidence

    For many of us, self-confidence seems self-evident. If you feel self-confident, you don’t often doubt your own abilities. But if you’re not confident, it’s hard to let go of worry about how others perceive you. For teachers, self-confidence creates a unique challenge: It’s important to convey a sense of confidence as the leader of a yoga class, but how should that self-confidence manifest itself? Display too much, and it comes across as self-importance. Display too little, and your students’ trust in your abilities might wane.

    This week, we’re going to strengthen your 3rd chakra (your core) with a few simple yoga poses and a pranayama (breath) exercise. Your 3rd chakra is your fire chakra and it is the home of your confidence, charisma and “can do” attitude. This is the third video in a seven video series of yoga poses that boost each chakra.

    After years of working with my yoga students and life coach clients, I’ve learned that 3rd chakra tends to be a real problem spot. It’s the place where a lot of people – especially women and people who consider themselves “spiritual” – lose their chakra power. And physically speaking the nexus where your solar plexus and heart chakra energy meets (in the bottom of your heart/top of your solar plexus) is the middle of your being.     In other words, the goal is not to wipe the sweat from your brow on your shins. So try spending less time looking in the mirror and a little more looking within yourself at how the pose feels. Try approaching these three familiar, accessible poses with that mindset, then stop and notice how you feel when you finish.
