Ice cream is a long-time favorite delight loved by both children and adults. I, for one, can never resist its very allure—especially on hot summer days and the heat just wants to meet its match through creamy, flavorful, delectable ice cream!
With the many brands available, it is fairly easy to buy one when the taste buds start straining to meet up with the sweet-cold assault of favorites. The drawback of instant, commercial brands would be…are you ready? Toxins.
Imagine that as you are licking with all gusto your favorite dessert, there’s so little that you know of the harmful ingredients included in the making of such seductions. And as you are enjoying the tasty concoction, imagine ingesting the following with every lick that you take:
Lick 1: Calcium Sulfate, Polysorbate 80, Magnesium hydroxide
Lick 2: Xanthan Gum, Corn Syrup Solids, Potassium Sorbate
Lick 3: Mono- and Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Sodium Phosphate
Lick 4: Soy Lecithin or Soya Lecithin, Carrageenan
Lick 5: Artificial Flavors, Dippings, Toppings
So, what are they? Some not only sound “scary,” but the above-mentioned stabilizers, emulsifiers and artificial flavors can actually cause a lot of physical concerns ranging from gastrointestinal problems to allergies to anaphylactic shock to migraine headaches; drug abuse-like behavioral problems, diabetes, hypertension, increased weight gain, asthma, accelerated aging, immune system breakdown…the list can go on and on. With all of that, I definitely would be worried. Worse, Potassium Sorbate is identified as a carcinogen! Here is another major, shocking fact:
According to the World Intellectual Property Organization, which is part of the United Nations, scientists from the organization are developing vaccines specifically to damage fertility as a method of contraception. A suggested ingredient for the vaccine is Polysorbate 80 (also known as tween 80). As it is a preferred ingredient, scientists are obviously aware of its ability to cause infertility.
We may argue that we take only ice cream at minimal levels, but after having read this, I would think twice in eating them again as it seems I would be signing my own “illness warrant.” With all of the toxins found in ice cream, would that mean that we can no longer enjoy this creation?
There is still actually a way to enjoy eating ice cream without being bogged down with health implications. The avoidance of many conventional retailer brands and the “more than 95% soft serve formulas which include a minimum of 3-5 stabilizers, emulsifiers and artificial flavors” according to certified fitness and nutritional counselor, Natasha Longo, holder of a master's degree in nutrition, means that the only way to eat healthy ice cream is to make it yourself, shying away from additives and opting for organic ingredients instead.
Next time you are tempted to eat those ice creams, you may want to think again and instead, try to make your own. As for me, well, at least I do not have to hog the local canteen anymore with my craving for ice cream bars. This information surely has me thinking especially that I would not want to be infertile—that would be the worst for me.
